The Dallas Cowboys and quarterback Dak Prescott are in the middle of a contract battle.

Prescott, after a career year, is looking to cash in before he enters the final year of his current contract.

Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio believes Prescott has plenty of leverage in these negotiations as the team is about to head to training camp.

“They have no way to keep (Dak Prescott) from becoming a free agent after this season. That’s an incredible amount of leverage for the player,” Florio recently said on The Pat McAfee Show.

What is also compelling about this is that Jerry Jones wants to win a Super Bowl before his time is up.

Although Prescott hasn’t been the best performer in the playoffs during his career (2-5 playoff record), he is still an above-average player who is right in his prime.

After all, he did set career-highs in completions (410) and touchdown passes (36) a season ago.

If Dallas were to not extend the 30-year-old signal-caller, would they be able to find somebody better on the market?

If they don’t, is Jerry Jones interested in going into a mini-rebuild with a rookie quarterback taking over?

At 81 years of age, it is a lot more likely that he would rather have a winning team right now.

With Prescott leading the team each of the last three seasons, they have won 12 games and multiple NFC East crowns, which is why there is so much pressure on the organization to get a deal done.

Prescott is a good player who has kept this team in a good spot but just hasn’t been able to take them over the top because the roster hasn’t been good enough.

If Jones loses Prescott, things could get dark in Dallas.
