There is no doubt that Joel Embiid of the Philadelphia 76ers is one of the most talented basketball players alive.

But it also can’t be denied that he has very bad luck when it comes to injuries.

If it weren’t for his physical problems, Embiid could have been the greatest of all time.

That’s what he thinks and he shared his thoughts with The New York Times, via Legion Hoops.

Embiid said:

“I think I’m that talented… If you think about it, the thing that stopped me all these years is just freak injuries. Every single playoffs, regular season, people falling on my knee or breaking my face — twice. It’s always freak injuries at the wrong time.”

Joel Embiid feels like he could’ve been the GOAT if it weren’t for the injuries:

Embiid’s career started with injuries and they have sadly been a prevalent part of every single season since.

He missed his first two seasons because of foot problems and it seems that every part of his body has been affected by injuries.

The 2023-24 season was a huge example of that.

He was the frontrunner for MVP but ended up only playing in 39 games because of numerous injuries.

And although he came back for the playoffs, he was clearly still in pain and wasn’t playing like his regular self.

It was yet another instance of Embiid being slowed down by physical problems.

They have been caused by bad conditioning, bad luck, and some on-court accidents but it seems that whenever Embiid goes down, he goes down for a long time.

Despite all of that, he is still an amazing player and averaged 34.7 points and 11 rebounds last season.

Like many others, Embiid agrees that his injuries have gotten in the way of even more greatness.
