Despite having some of the greatest players in NBA history, Team USA could barely escape with a win vs. South Sudan.
The media overlooked the team, and, apparently, so did the players and the coaching staff.
Paul Pierce, Keyshawn Johnson, and Skip Bayless spent time on Undisputed making fun of the fact that South Sudan even made it to the Olympics, just for LeBron James’ game-winning layup to save the USA from a historical upset.
Their record might remain stainless, but the damage is already done.
That’s why, in his latest appearance on FOX Sports Radio, Steve Hartman asked for coach Steve Kerr to be fired right away.
“That was embarrassing. If it were me I would fire Steve Kerr right now!”

Talking to Monse Bolaños, Hartman argued that Kerr’s mismanagement of the team was already evident, adding that Team USA’s lack of defensive commitment and expertise could come back to haunt them when it actually counts.
Granted, one would want to think that the players and coaching staff would approach the official games a little more seriously and that this close win was just a fluke, but it definitely wasn’t a good sign.
Team USA has more than enough talent to beat every single opponent, and they have plenty of depth at all positions to match up with multiple teams.
Then again, they won’t just beat other nations out of talent alone; they actually have to demonstrate their superiority on the court.
As for coach Kerr, it would be very difficult to envision him keeping his job if Team USA doesn’t bring home the gold with that kind of roster, especially after how things went down in the FIBA World Cup.
