The San Francisco 49ers have shown no willingness to move on from Brandon Aiyuk whatsoever.
Unfortunately for him, they also haven’t been able or willing to meet his steep salary demands.
That has led the wide receiver to try and force his way off the team, sharing comments on social media, and even sharing a screenshot of himself watching film of another team.
Aiyuk eventually realized that he had no leverage and his antics weren’t working out, so he formally requested a trade.
Needless to say, this wasn’t particularly surprising around the league, and reports state that as many as five teams tried to trade for him prior to the NFL Draft.
According to Savage Sports, the New England Patriots were one of those teams, and they were even willing to pay him the $28 million per year he was looking for.

The Patriots offered a second round pick for Brandon Aiyuk before the NFL draft and were rejected.
It is reported that the Patriots would’ve paid him what he wanted which was 28 million dollars per year.

Apparently, Patriots’ GM Eliot Wolf offered a second-round pick for his services, but the Niners turned down that offer.
Of course, that was before Aiyuk formally requested a trade, so perhaps they still had hopes of working something out.
As of now, it doesn’t seem like Aiyuk is going to cave; it just seems personal at this point.
John Lynch will most likely have to field offers for him and send him to the highest bidder, as it seems like he’s more than willing to make things very uncomfortable, and as great a player as he is, a Super Bowl-aspiring team just shouldn’t deal with that kind of distraction.
