The Cleveland Cavaliers now have two of their franchise cornerstones locked in for the future.

It has been a positive offseason for the Cavaliers, as they signed Donovan Mitchell to a contract extension to put an end to all rumors and speculation about his future, and they’ve now done the same with their best defensive player.

According to a report from Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN, Evan Mobley has agreed on a five-year, max rookie contract extension worth a whopping $224 million.

Moreover, the deal could rise all the way to $269 million, depending on certain criteria and milestones.

With that in mind, Mitchell took to Twitter to congratulate his teammate on getting paid, jokingly stating that he wasn’t going to pay for anything anymore.

Mobley hasn’t lived up to expectations in terms of offense, as he was expected to be a factor on that end of the floor.

He has failed to expand his range despite showing some promise as a shooter, and he also has to put in a lot of work on his post-up game.

Some feel like being paired with Jarrett Allen hurts his potential and hampers his development, but with Allen having a history with coach Kenny Atkinson, a trade seems unlikely at this point.

Nonetheless, he’s one of the best defensive players in the game, and it’s not even close.

He’s one of just four players with at least 300 blocks and 150 steals since 2021, and he has the potential to be a perennial Defensive Player of the Year candidate.
