It’s not unusual to see young players impress during the NBA Summer League and get themselves a spot on a roster.
And with the Chicago Bulls entering a full-scale rebuild sooner rather than later, it makes sense to keep stacking up young talent.
That’s why, following some strong outings in the Summer League, they decided to give PG DJ Steward an opportunity.
According to a report by Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN, the Bulls have signed him to a two-way contract.
Free agent guard DJ Steward has agreed on a two-way contract with the Chicago Bulls, sources tell ESPN. Steward, 22, has averaged 19.3 points for the Bulls in Las Vegas Summer League — including 37 points on Friday night. pic.twitter.com/AHfUk3UO25

In five games in Las Vegas, the Duke product averaged 17.4 points, 6.4 assists, and 1.4 steals per game on 47% from the field and 40% from beyond the arc.
He also had a 37-point explosion that included a game-winning shot in overtime vs. the Atlanta Hawks, so it’s not much of a surprise to see that he caught the Bulls’ eye.
Steward went undrafted in the 2021 NBA Draft.
He had training camp deals with the Sacramento Kings and Boston Celtics in the past and played for both of their G-League affiliates in the previous campaigns, and he’s now about to do so for the Bulls.
However, unlike in the past, he might actually get an opportunity to take the floor in the NBA with Chicago.
The Bulls traded for Josh Giddey, but there’s still no word on Lonzo Ball.
As for Coby White and Ayo Dosumnu, neither of them are traditional point guards and look better playing off the ball.
He’s still got plenty of work to do, but it’s nice to see his hard work paying off and being rewarded.
