Steelers QB Could Set Unfortunate Record This Season

For years, the Pittsburgh Steelers have struggled to get some sort of production from the quarterback position.

Ben Roethlisberger was far from his best in the final passage of his career, and that revolving door of Mitch Trubisky, Mason Rudolph, and Kenny Pickett didn’t improve things.

Now, Russell Wilson will look not only to lead the team back to success, but also to prove that he’s still got it.

Notably, he’s going to need some help from his offensive line to do so.

The Steelers will feature at least two rookie players on the offensive line, and that could lead Russell Wilson to a place in infamous NFL history.

As shown by Pro Football Reference, he’s just 44 sacks away from passing Fran Tarkenton and becoming the most-sacked quarterback in the history of the game.

As of now, Wilson ranks No. 5 all-time with 527 sacks.

Among active players, he trails only Aaron Rodgers, who’s been sacked four more times despite being in the league for seven years longer.

Of course, that also means that Rodgers could become the most-sacked quarterback ever, and the New York Jets have had plenty of issues in terms of protecting the passer in recent times.

Still, with the Jets revamping their offensive line in the offseason and with the Steelers boasting some unproven players there, Wilson’s chances of getting dropped seem to be slightly higher at this time.

If not, with him being younger than Rodgers, it might be just a matter of time before he earns that distinction.
