The Houston Texans may have lucked out in the 2023 NFL Draft as they were able to select C.J. Stroud with the second overall pick.
Stroud was considered the second-best quarterback prospect behind Carolina Panthers quarterback Bryce Young, but he quickly proved that those evaluations were wrong with one of the best rookie signal caller seasons in NFL history.
The Ohio State product not only dominated the passing game, but he showed a clear understanding of the offense and what offensive coordinator Bobby Slowik wanted to do with the playcalling.
Stroud wound up passing for 4,108 yards and 23 touchdowns, excellent numbers for any quarterback let alone a rookie.
Now heading into his second year, the sky appears to be the limit for Stroud who has the rare opportunity to lead his team to back-to-back playoff appearances.
With training camp set to start this week, Slowik gushed about how much improvement Stroud’s made this offseason via Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2.
“‘He’s made some really big strides’ #Texans offensive coordinator Bobby Slowik on second year quarterback C.J. Stroud,” Wilson tweeted.

Specifically, Slowik highlights Stroud’s leadership growth and command of the offense, two key areas for any player development.
Slowik also breaks down why these areas are important and says that leaders like Stroud need to be like coaches on the field to help organize the team.
From the sound of it, Stroud seems poised to make another leap as a player and that could spell trouble for the rest of the league as Houston tries its best to break into the contender conversation.
