The Detroit Pistons have stacked up plenty of talent over the past couple of years.

One would assume that a team with so many good young players may have shown some signs of improvement over the years but, unfortunately, that hasn’t been the case.

Injuries, coaching, a bad fit, or perhaps a little bit of everything have gotten in the Pistons’ way.

But now, there’s — again — a light at the end of the tunnel.

As shown by Jack Kelly on Twitter, their latest lottery pick had some impressive performances in the Summer League.

Ron Holland flirted with a double-double twice, showed his defensive prowess, and got significantly more comfortable offensively each game, going from 15 to 17 to 20 to 23 points.

Ron Holland at Summer League:

15 PTS – 7 REB – 2 AST – 2 BLK
17 PTS – 9 REB – 3 AST – 1 STL
20 PTS – 6 REB – 1 STL – 2 BLK
23 PTS – 4 REB – 3 AST – 3 STL

Got better with every game, love this pick from Trajan.

Perhaps the most important thing about the way he performed isn’t even his uptick in scoring but the way he got his points.

The only knock on Holland during his time in the G-League was that he was a subpar three-point shooter, knocking down just 24% of his attempts.

However, he made at least a three-pointer in each Summer League game, and while his shot clearly needs some work, he’s showing signs of promise in that regard.

Granted, no wing in this league will be able to stay on the court unless he can make some shots, but Holland seems to have every other tool to find success in the NBA.

It’s been a while since the Pistons were any good, and while they might still need to wait for a little longer, this is most definitely an exciting pick for them.
