Spencer Dinwiddie is heading back to Dallas.

After weeks of speculation, Shams Charania is reporting that Dinwiddie has agreed to a one-year deal with the Dallas Mavericks, reuniting him with the team he was with during most of the 2021-22 and 2022-23 seasons.

During that time, he averaged 17.1 points, 3.1 rebounds, and 4.9 assists and became a fan favorite for Dallas’ loyal followers.

Since leaving the Mavericks, Dinwiddie spent time with the Brooklyn Nets and most recently the Los Angeles Lakers.

He is coming back to a Mavericks team that is much better and more successful.

They just went all the way to the NBA Finals after a strong turnaround in the middle of the season and an impressive push through the playoffs.

There have been numerous rumors about the Mavericks signing role player to improve their chances in the new season.

Even though they did so well in 2023-24, most people agree that they could enhance the roster a bit and perhaps have better luck in the postseason.

The Western Conference is only getting tougher and the Mavericks want to find ways to keep up.

Dinwiddie’s previous work with the Mavericks was celebrated and well-regarded by people across the league.

His output with the Nets and Lakers was diminished but some fans said he’d play better with a team that knew how to use him more.

Returning to the Mavericks might be exactly what Dinwiddie needs to hit career highs again.

This news takes yet another free agent off the market, leaving other teams with fewer options as the summer continues.
