The situation between the San Francisco 49ers and star wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk has been long-documented this offseason.
Aiyuk is looking for a major extension and has stood firm in his belief that he deserves more than he is currently earning, which is supposed to be $14.1 million in 2024.
After recently requesting a trade from the Niners after multiple failed attempts at trying to come to terms on a new deal, a new development has come to light out in the Bay Area.
According to NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport, Aiyuk is reporting to training camp despite having previously requested a trade.
“The team has not held extensive contract talks since May,” Rapoport recently made sure to point out on social media.

It is hard to grasp where things currently stand between the two sides.
Aiyuk is still under contract with the team, which is why the team could have fined him if he decided not to show up to training camp.
But he is going to show up, and that could possibly pave the way for some more dialogue between Aiyuk’s representatives and the organization.
If the 49ers could find a way to keep Aiyuk for at least this season or better yet, the foreseeable future, they could stay near the top of the NFC with all of the great skill players that are on the roster.
With star running back Christian McCaffrey, do-it-all wide receiver Deebo Samuel, All-Pro tight end George Kittle, and more around Pro Bowl quarterback Brock Purdy, San Francisco is well-positioned to make a run at the Super Bowl again.
Keeping Aiyuk could only further that notion, but a lot of work seemingly still has to be done in order to do just that.
