Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Ja’Marr Chase is in the mix for a new long-term contract extension after beginning his career with three straight 1,000-yard seasons and scoring 29 touchdowns over that span en route to establishing himself as one of the best young receivers in the league.

Chase recently sat down to discuss the NFL’s top 100 list and shared who he thinks is the best player in the NFL, and it’s not a surprising choice.

The star receiver refused to say that Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes is the best, and said “I’m not saying his name” before stating that Joe Burrow is the best player in football.

Ja’Marr Chase won’t put ANYBODY over his QB Joe Burrow as the best player in the NFL. This is major “THAT’S MY QUARTERBACK” energy and I respect it. He won’t even say Patrick Mahomes’ name. THATS A REAL RIVALRY.

Chase admitted he was “salty” about Mahomes winning back-to-back titles, but it’s admirable that he sticks by his guy this tightly and refuses to speak fondly about their biggest competitor.

Burrow is looking for a bounce-back campaign after breaking his wrist last season and ultimately derailing Cincinnati’s season entirely, and he’ll have the luxury of still having Chase and Tee Higgins as his top two wide receivers even though both are clamoring for big contracts.

Burrow does have the distinction of having a playoff victory over Mahomes on his resume, and he’s the only quarterback other than Tom Brady to beat him in the postseason.

Before last season, Burrow signed a five-year, $275 million contract extension that made him the highest-paid QB in the NFL.

Props to Chase for sticking by his guy, and if Burrow stays healthy this season, perhaps he’ll prove Chase right.
