The Green Bay Packers want to have their franchise quarterback on the practice field.

Jordan Love is obviously the most important piece of the puzzle there, which is why they should be in a rush to get a deal done soon.

Fortunately for them, it seems like it might happen pretty soon.

According to a report by ProFootballTalk, both parties are pretty close and optimistic about a contract extension.

Jordan Love deal is “pretty close,” we’re told. Not done yet, but moving in that direction. And both sides have every reason to expedite an agreement and get him on the practice field.

GM Brian Gutekunst spent the entire offseason talking about how much they wanted to sign Love, which is why it’s been slightly surprising to see that it took them so long to get a deal done.

Also, the fact that Love decided to hold out may have been a bit disappointing to the organization.

The Packers front office took criticism for him when they took him in the first round, and they signed him to a reasonable extension long before he even proved that he was an NFL-caliber player.

That’s just the ruthless and cruel nature of the business side of sports, and it’s becoming more common to see players holding out and threatening not to do the job they’re getting paid to do.

The Packers are a big dark horse to make it to the Super Bowl this season, and Love showed plenty of signs of promise in his first season as a starter.

Now, he’ll have to prove that last season’s success wasn’t a fluke and not take his foot off the gas just because he got paid.
