The Brandon Aiyuk contract extension saga continues for the San Francisco 49ers, and there doesn’t seem to be a satisfactory resolution in sight.
He is rumored to want an extension that would pay him roughly $30 million a year, which would be in line with some of the extensions star and elite wide receivers have recently gotten, and the stalemate in negotiations led to him asking to be traded earlier this month.
Some are confident the 49ers will eventually come to an agreement with Aiyuk, especially since fellow wideout Deebo Samuel was in a similar situation two years ago and signed an extension during training camp.
But Matt Maiocco of NBC Sports said this situation “is just more complicated” because the Niners have given out big contracts to their other stars and will need to give quarterback Brock Purdy what will likely be a huge extension next year.

Unlike the NBA, the NFL has a “hard” salary cap, and it has resulted in teams trading or releasing very productive players in order to keep others on competitive extensions.
Some feel San Francisco will have to trade Samuel a little later on if they give Aiyuk the money he has been asking for.
The team has arguably the most talented roster in football, and such a roster simply becomes very expensive over time as its stars approach the end of their current contracts.
Purdy’s contract could be one of the richest, if not the richest, in the NFL, and there are other key players, such as safety Talanoa Hufanga, who will soon be in line for extensions of their own.
It makes the 49ers’ inability to win the Super Bowl championship in recent years even more magnified while putting even more pressure on them to win it all this season.
