During the 2017 NFL Draft, the then-Oakland Raiders decided to upgrade their defense with their first-round draft pick at No. 24 overall, which the storied franchise used on cornerback Gareon Conley, out of Ohio State.

At the time, bringing in Conley seemed like a solid move by the Raiders, as it addressed a need and was thought to be a potential game-changer for the team’s secondary.

Unfortunately for Oakland, the Raiders only got two games out of Conley during his rookie campaign, which obviously wasn’t ideal for a player the team used a first-round pick on.

However, Conley bounced back with a vengeance in his sophomore season with the Raiders as he played in 15 games during the 2018 NFL season, where he made an impression with three interceptions, 15 passes defensed, 24 solo tackles and a defensive touchdown.

It seemed as though Conley had arrived in his second season in the league, but things went downhill from there as he ended up with the Houston Texans the following season and flamed out after the 2019 campaign.

Conley tried to resurrect his once-promising career with the Dallas Cowboys, but unfortunately, it wasn’t meant to be as he told the team he would be retiring, according to ESPN’s Todd Archer.

I’m told Gareon Conley has informed the Cowboys he intends to retire.

Things haven’t been going well for the Cowboys since they were embarrassed in the first round of the NFL playoffs by Jordan Love and the upstart Green Bay Packers last season.

It seems as though there’s been nothing but bad news coming out of Dallas as the team tries to bounce back and return to form as a legitimate title contender in the NFC.
