It is the start of a new era for the Denver Broncos, and they hope it will be a lot more successful than their failed experiment with aging star quarterback Russell Wilson.
Their new man under center is Bo Nix, whom they took with the No. 12 pick in April’s draft, and they’re looking to groom him to be their next true franchise signal-caller.
While on “The Herd w/ Colin Cowherd,” T.J. Houshmandzadeh was asked which rookie QBs will do well quickly in the NFL, and he said Nix will do well because of his extensive experience in college while at Auburn University and the University of Oregon.

Last season, Nix led the NCAA with 4,508 passing yards and 45 touchdowns, and he set a single-season NCAA record with a 77.4 percent pass completion rate.
Houshmandzadeh mentioned how Nix started 61 games in five years in college, which is rare, since it is so uncommon for freshmen to start.
Denver head coach Sean Payton has said some complimentary things about Nix this offseason, and in fact, some have even compared Nix to Drew Brees, the legendary quarterback Payton coached when he was with the New Orleans Saints.
The bad news for Denver is that they don’t really have any high-level weapons at the skill positions, and in a loaded AFC, that will make it very difficult for them to have a shot at making the playoffs.
But perhaps over time, they can become very competitive again if Nix lives up to expectations.
The Broncos haven’t made the playoffs since the 2015 season, and ever since Peyton Manning retired following their Super Bowl 50 win, they have had a fast-moving carousel of quarterbacks, some of whom have been very forgettable.
