The Olympics are a time when citizens from all over the world come together and put their differences aside to root for their favorite players.

It is usually free of much negativity, although there has been some this year.

For example, Joel Embiid has heard his fair share of boos when taking to the court for Team USA.

As tough as it is, that nasty reception isn’t getting under his skin.

When asked if he had anything to say to the people booing him, the Philadelphia 76er star was honest and direct.

“Nothing. Like I said I’m an American, I play for Team USA,” Embiid said, via Joe Vardon of The Athletic.

Embiid’s relationship with the fans in Paris is complicated, to put it gently.

The former MVP grew up in Cameroon and then became a French citizen back in 2022.

He previously spoke publicly about playing on behalf of France but then made the choice to become an American and play for Team USA.

Understandably, that has rubbed many French fans the wrong way and since the Olympics are in Paris, Embiid is really hearing it.

France already has a good team but they could be even better with Embiid on board.

The idea of Embiid alongside Victor Wembanyama and Rudy Gobert sounds downright terrifying.

Fans will never get a chance to see that trio on the court together and Embiid is solely focused on doing well for America.

Things have gotten off to a rocky start so far, with Embiid struggling because of strict rules and touch matchups.

Regardless of how he is playing, Embiid is happy with his choice to sign with Team USA and isn’t listening to the shower of rowdy boos coming his way.
