The New York Jets don’t have any more margin for error.

They know that this tenure with Aaron Rodgers could be just a one-and-done kind of situation.

He contemplated retirement before his trade to the Big Apple, so he could weigh his options again.

He could also become a free agent and pursue a different, more favorable situation for him.

With that in mind, and considering his age and the fact that he’s coming off a season-ending Achilles injury, Robert Saleh and his coaching staff have officially made up their minds about whether to play him in the preseason.

According to a report by Adam Schefter of ESPN, the former MVP isn’t likely to suit up for the Jets in the preseason.

Jets HC Robert Saleh said that QB Aaron Rodgers, who is recovering from his Achilles injury, is unlikely to play this preseason.

Needless to say, some might show some concerns about this, given how long he’s been away from the game and the fact that he missed some of the minicamp due to an unexcused absence.

Then again, this seems to be the right approach to take with the veteran gunslinger.

Rodgers has suffered no setbacks and has experienced no limitations in training camp, at least that the media know of.

He’s pretty familiar with Nathaniel Hackett’s offense and system from their days together with the Green Bay Packers, and he should be more than ready to take the field when it actually counts.

At the end of the day, keeping him safe and healthy will be of the utmost importance for them, so this makes sense.
