Heading into the 2023 NFL season, few teams had more hype surrounding them or higher expectations than the New York Jets, with the team believing they had finally added the missing piece to the championship puzzle with superstar quarterback Aaron Rodgers.
The Green Bay Packers trading Rodgers to the Jets sent shockwaves throughout the league, with the franchise finally getting its hands on a quarterback who had already lifted the Vince Lombardi Trophy in his career.
Unfortunately for New York, it wasn’t meant to be last season, with Rodgers going down with a torn Achilles on his first drive with the team while taking on the division-rival Buffalo Bills, which derailed any chance the Jets had to compete with the best of the best in the AFC.
With Rodgers now fully recovered and ready to get back to work under center for the Jets, the team is being cautious in order to avoid any mishaps before the season starts on Sept. 9 on the road against the San Francisco 49ers.
That said, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, Rodgers likely won’t see any time on the field during the upcoming NFL preseason.
“Robert Saleh making a little news this morning talking about how Aaron Rodgers is unlikely, in his words, to play in a preseason game,” Rapoport said.

Although this seems like a smart move by the team initially, it could prove costly in terms of Rodgers getting up to game speed before Week 1 against one of the best teams in the NFL.
Rodgers hasn’t played in a long time, and there’s bound to be some rust, so getting him used to being back under center would probably help more than hurt, unless he’s already dealing with an injury issue.
