New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers is back this season after suffering a torn Achilles just four snaps into his debut with the team last season, and after the front office revamped the offense around him this offseason, many fans are clamoring for one more big move in the form of a trade for Davante Adams that would reunite the four-time MVP with his go-to wide receiver from his days with the Green Bay Packers.

With Adams dealing with a questionable quarterback situation on the Las Vegas Raiders, combined with frustrations he showed in the Netflix show “Receiver,” this hot topic has had plenty of fuel thrown on it, including some from Rodgers himself.

Earlier this month, while at a celebrity golf event in Lake Tahoe, Rodgers told a reporter he couldn’t wait to play with Adams again.

Now at Jets training camp, he recently clarified those remarks in a press conference.

“I do love Davante, for sure. That particular guy was a tad bit irritating, I would say,” Rodgers said. “… I was just trying to give him something and get rid of him.”

The Jets added to their wide receiver room this offseason when they signed Mike Williams in free agency, but fans are still excited about the idea of Adams joining the fold, which is still a possibility if the Raiders get off to a poor start this season.

For now, Rodgers was right to throw a wet blanket on this fire and shift the focus back to the field and the talent the Jets already have on the roster.

New York has high expectations this season with a healthy Rodgers leading the charge, and he has all the weapons he needs to get the team to the postseason for the first time since the 2010 campaign.
