The Pittsburgh Steelers entered training camp with a unique situation on their hands.
They have a true quarterback competition on their hands, as they added both Russell Wilson and Justin Fields to their roster in the offseason.
Wilson has a lot more career experience than Fields, a younger player with a lot to prove after his relatively quick exit from the Chicago Bears.
When both players came to the team, there was a general understanding that Wilson would be the starter, and Fields would have to work extra hard to prove himself if he wanted to overtake the veteran.
Adam Schefter recently gave an update on this situation in a conversation on NFL Live, indicating that there could be a change in this mentality.
“I think Russell Wilson remains in the pole position, but I also think that Justin Fields has opened some eyes, and they see the type of offense they could have,” Schefter said.

Wilson might have the edge at the moment, but in Schefter’s eyes, something might be brewing in Pittsburgh.
Fields presents a completely different upside to their offense than Wilson does, which could be why the team is giving him more and more chances.
Wilson might represent a more typical quarterback but with Fields’ ability to take off on the run and pass the ball efficiently, he could present a compelling case to the Steelers’ staff.
After all, they spent many years under Ben Roethlisberger’s regime and could be looking for a change.
