Bag season is in full effect in the NFL, and it’s not just for the quarterbacks and wide receivers.
One former Super Bowl champion is the most recent recipient of a huge contract and is now the highest-paid offensive lineman in NFL history.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that the Tampa Bay Buccaneers have given three-time Pro Bowl offensive tackle Tristan Wirfs a five-year, $140.63 million contract that puts an end to an uneventful contract saga that was never truly in doubt.

It seemed like only a matter of time before this deal got done, as both parties never made this a hostile situation. Bucs quarterback Baker Mayfield recently spoke up and mentioned that it was likely a formality.
Just like recent quarterback contracts in the sense that the most recent player to get paid becomes the highest-paid ever at their position, Wirfs has followed suit and is now signed with the Bucs through 2029.
The No. 13 overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, Wirfs is in the final year of his rookie deal and is due $18.24 million this season.
The new deal contains $88.24 million guaranteed, and the $28.1 million annual value clears Detroit Lions tackle Penei Sewell’s $28 million per year deal he signed in April.
Wirfs reported to mandatory minicamp in June but didn’t participate in training camp ahead of receiving a new contract.
At just 25 years old, Wirfs should have plenty of great years ahead of him and gets to stick with the franchise he helped win the Super Bowl in his rookie season.
