The Pittsburgh Steelers entered training camp with several pressing questions to answer.
None of those questions were as important as the state of their quarterback position, an answer that many fans have been waiting for.
After all, the Steelers added two potential QB1s in the offseason: Justin Fields and Russell Wilson.
When Wilson was added to the team, it was assumed that, because he was a veteran, he would get first chance at first-team reps.
While that has been the case to this point, the Steelers have also been impressed with Fields’ development, which offensive coordinator Arthur Smith recently highlighted in a conversation shared via 93.7, “The Fan,” on Twitter.
“I think Justin’s doing a fantastic job. I’m getting to know him… These are critical reps for Justin,” Smith said.

Smith believes Fields is doing everything right and that the reps he takes in training camp matter.
He might not get an opportunity to play with the ones every day, but when he gets a chance, it seems like he makes the most of his chances.
Fields was viewed as a risky, potential project player coming out of college, which proved to be the case when the Chicago Bears moved on from him.
He showed some promise in his first several years in the league, and with the right coaching and players around him, his NFL future could be bright.
With Smith’s glowing endorsement of Fields, it will be interesting to observe how the Steelers will handle Wilson, and how long of a leash he’ll get.
