One of the nicer parts of NFL training camp is seeing journeymen get another chance and signing deals around the league to come into camp and compete for a spot on the Week 1 roster.
One former San Francisco 49ers tight end is generating interest from multiple teams looking to add some depth before the start of the preseason.
KPRC2’s Aaron Wilson shared that multiple teams have expressed interest in signing tight end Cole Hikutini from the USFL’s Michigan Panthers after a strong season when he finished second in the league among tight ends in yards per reception.

In addition to previously spending playing for the Niners, Hikutini also spent time with the Minnesota Vikings, Dallas Cowboys and New York Giants.
Hikutini appeared in two regular-season games for the Niners in 2017 and recorded two receptions for 15 yards.
The 6-foot-4, 240-pound tight end out of Louisville recently turned 30 years old and put up 239 yards and five touchdowns in his most recent USFL season.
In his final season at Louisville, Hikutini put up 50 catches for 668 yards and eight touchdowns before going undrafted.
He originally signed as an undrafted free agent with the Niners in 2017 and appeared in his first regular season game in October after being promoted from the practice squad.
He was waived just before the start of the 2018 season and signed with the Vikings’ practice squad, remaining there for another year before spending time on the Cowboys’ and Giants’ practice squads until joining the USFL in 2022.
We’ll see if Hikutini can stick in the NFL now that he is drawing some interest.
