Many quarterbacks around the NFL this offseason have gotten massive paydays, including Trevor Lawrence, Jordan Love, Tua Tagovailoa, Kirk Cousins and Jared Goff.
However, Dak Prescott has suspiciously not received his expected payday and is set to head into the season on an expiring contract, a situation former NFL player Chris Long has described as the “biggest audition of his life.”
In a recent clip from his podcast, “Green Light with Chris Long,” Long said that while the Dallas Cowboys star already has all the money and accolades one could want, he doesn’t have a Super Bowl title, and this may be his last chance to do that in Dallas because Jerry Jones doesn’t seem to be afraid of his QB1 becoming a free agent.
“[Dak] doesn’t maybe feel like he’s been able to show who he is in the postseason,” Long said. “His ticket out is maybe his last chance to do that, because it’s not gonna happen in Dallas. And I look at this and say maybe it is the biggest audition of his life.”

Prescott is coming off one of his best seasons after throwing 36 touchdowns and just nine interceptions, but he flopped in the playoffs again as his Cowboys got demolished by the Green Bay Packers at home.
Prescott, CeeDee Lamb and Micah Parsons are all looking for a new contract, while head coach Mike McCarthy is also in a contract year, just like his starting quarterback.
It has become clear that this is a make-or-break season for both Prescott and McCarthy, and one more early playoff exit could be all it takes for ownership to move on from both.
If Prescott hits free agency, there will certainly be a few teams willing to give him all the money he is looking for.
Calling this an audition is an accurate take, as Prescott could be one more playoff flop away from looking for a new home.
