New Washington Commanders head coach Dan Quinn brings a restored sense of confidence with him to the nation’s capital after successful runs as head coach of the Atlanta Falcons and defensive coordinator of the Dallas Cowboys, where he built one of the best defenses in the league over the past three years.

Now that he is back to being a head coach, he has the chance to oversee an entire roster and overhaul a quarterback room that needed it, and one former Notre Dame star is impressing him in his quest to make the final 53-man roster.

In a recent appearance on “Up & Adams” with Kay Adams, Quinn said that QB Sam Hartman “looks good, plays good” after Adams told him, “All the ladies are tweeting me, ‘Do not cut Sam Hartman.’”

After five seasons at Wake Forest and a final one at Notre Dame, Hartman signed with the Commanders as an undrafted free agent.

He threw 24 touchdowns and eight interceptions for the Fighting Irish last year and is likely in a battle with Jeff Driskel to make the Commanders’ roster as the third quarterback.

The No. 2 overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, Heisman Trophy winner Jayden Daniels, looks headed to be the Week 1 starter for Washington, with fellow former Heisman winner Marcus Mariota set to serve as the backup.

Quinn stressed to Adams that Hartman’s presence is based on his play and obviously not just his looks, and he’ll likely have plenty of opportunity during the preseason to prove he is worthy of making the team.
