The New England Patriots have put a lot of hope in their new quarterback.

Even if Drake Maye might not be there to start the season — or at all — during his rookie year, all eyes are on him as they hope that he can become their quarterback for the future.

That’s why, even though there were some encouraging early reports about his work ethic and whatnot, some fans have grown concerned after recent reports highlighted his struggles on the field during training camp.

However, Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated believes people shouldn’t read too much into that (via Savage Sports).

“Drake Maye has had rough moments, to be sure, but New England Patriots people attribute that to him running with the second team, and how the team’s offensive line depth issue has really shown up with that group. What’s impressed his coaches most is… pic.twitter.com/r6riN2vOYS

Per the renowned NFL insider, most of Maye’s struggles in training camp could be credited to him playing with the second unit.

Apparently, the Patriots’ lack of depth on the offensive line has been a major and evident issue with that group of players.

Even so, Maye’s footwork has reportedly come a long way since he arrived in the league, and the team has been quite impressed with his ability to make reads and go through his progressions in a matter of seconds.

Breer believes the team has been encouraged by how quickly he processes things, adding that he ‘sees everything’ when he’s out there.

Maye was always expected to be a bit of a work in progress.

From a physical standpoint, he has absolutely everything one would want from a franchise quarterback, and the team has raved about his work ethic as well.

He’ll be worth the wait.
