The United States worked diligently to put the best possible men’s basketball roster together for this year’s Olympics.

After careful consideration, they crafted a lineup of All-Stars and future Hall of Famers, hoping they could take home the gold medal.

While many of the players they chose have panned out well, not everyone has turned out as expected.

Charles Barkley recently called out Joel Embiid for his performance to this point, expressing his disappointment in an appearance on the “Podcast P Show” with Paul George.

Barkley said, “I think that’s one of the reasons he’s always injured. I don’t think he’s in good enough shape… You got to be a little bit embarrassed by the way you played.”

Embiid’s decision to join Team USA was a controversial one to begin with, as some believed he should have played for France.

However, he had eligibility to play for the United States, and he lept at that chance, given their recent Olympic history.

It seemed like the perfect opportunity for him to compete on an international stage, but, as Barkley mentioned, Embiid’s fitness level has inhibited him from making the biggest possible impact.

He didn’t play at all against South Sudan, and while he was a starter against Puerto Rico, Embiid had 15 points in 22 minutes.

After many expected him to be a dominant force on this team, his numbers have indicated that something is getting in the way of him making a monumental impact.
