The 2023 season didn’t go as planned for the Los Angeles Chargers.
Many believed they would take the next step under Justin Herbert’s leadership, but with an injury hindering his availability, and some frustrations within the locker room, the Chargers couldn’t be as effective as they would have liked.
They brought in Jim Harbaugh to try and help them out, a veteran coach who knows a thing or two about winning.
Harbaugh’s experience could be crucial for this team and Herbert’s development moving forward.
While Herbert is expected to be the team’s starter for the foreseeable future, the Chargers need to make sure they have a backup plan in case he succumbs to another unfortunate injury.
With this in mind, Adam Schefter has reported that the Chargers recently signed Luis Perez to their roster, a UFL standout.
Chargers signed quarterback Luis Perez, who led the UFL in completions (225), passing yards (2,309) and passing touchdowns (18).

As Schefter highlighted, Perez was the UFL leader in completions, passing touchdowns, and passing yards.
The UFL isn’t necessarily supposed to be a feeder league for the NFL, but several players have made a transition in recent years.
Perez is the latest example of someone getting a shot from the UFL, hoping he can make it as a backup in the NFL.
Easton Stick was primarily tasked with the backup duties for the Chargers last season, so it will be interesting to see what his role will look like moving forward.
Regardless of who their backup is, the Chargers hope that Herbert can be their starter all year, and they won’t have to worry about turning the reins over to anyone else.
