Judging by what has happened between the New York Giants and Detroit Lions this week, other NFL head coaches are starting to crack down on fighting.

New York Jets head coach Robert Saleh was recently asked in front of the New York media about his message to his team about taking part in fights.

“If you throw a punch, you’re kicked out of the game, so don’t do it in practice,” Saleh said.

The Jets are hosting joint practices with the Washington Commanders this week, which is why Saleh was asked about the team’s view on fighting.

Now, the question is whether or not the players will listen to that message or not.

If an opposing player like Commanders Pro Bowl wide receiver Terry McLaurin starts jawing at Jets All-Pro cornerback Sauce Gardner, will Gardner go back at him, and will that escalate?

Fighting can put players at risk of getting hurt physically and financially.

It is smart by Saleh to get up in front of a microphone and put this message out there, but it is now up to the players to adhere to that message.

Look for veteran players such as quarterback Aaron Rodgers, left tackle Tyron Smith, linebacker C.J. Moseley and others to help push that message over the top.

In a season that could be considered all or nothing for Gang Green, the players cannot risk getting into silly fights.

They might have bigger things in store for them down the road in February that they need to be concerned about.
