The Denver Broncos overhauled their quarterback room this offseason when they cut ties with Russell Wilson, drafted Bo Nix and traded for former No. 2 overall pick Zach Wilson, and the team now has to sort out who is going to be the Week 1 starter.

One former NFL GM has a strong belief about who will win Denver’s QB job, and it’s the name that likely will excite most fans.

“I think Bo Nix is gonna earn it,” former GM Mike Lombardi said on “The Pat McAfee Show.” “… [Head coach] Sean Payton is completely vested in this young player and I think he wants him to show that he can win the job … and I think Sean’s gonna choreograph this so that he does win the job.”

Lombardi pointed out that Nix is currently the No. 3 QB on the depth chart behind current starter Jarrett Stidham and Wilson, but that means nothing this early into training camp.

Nix has the highest ceiling by far and started more games in college than anybody in NCAA history, so he should be the most pro-ready quarterback from his draft class based on his experience.

Stidham is a career backup and has completed 59.4 percent of his passes with eight touchdowns and eight interceptions playing for three teams in four NFL seasons.

If he holds on to the job and starts in Week 1, it will obviously be as a seat-warmer for whenever Payton believes Nix is ready, which could be well before that time.
