The Denver Broncos are looking to have a much better season this year than last under head coach Sean Payton.

They did win the most games that they’ve won since 2016 (8) but still missed the playoffs for the eighth consecutive season.

Now, whether it is rookie quarterback Bo Nix, former first-round pick Zach Wilson, or veteran Jarrett Stidham taking over as the starter, Payton really wants the team to improve in one particular area: the red zone.

“We’ve got to do a much better job, and we will…I could give you 11 things we didn’t do well,” Payton recently said in front of the media.

The former Super Bowl-winning head coach also referred to the team’s red-zone offense and execution as “awful.”

There are a couple of things that have changed over this offseason that might allow for a change in production for Denver.

First of all, the team went out and drafted their possible quarterback of the future in Nix in the first round of this year’s NFL Draft.

If he wins the job this preseason, Payton would have the guy that he wants leading the offense, unlike Russell Wilson.

Also, the team made other moves such as trading former first-round wide receiver Jerry Jeudy to the Cleveland Browns.

Despite getting rid of two veteran players, perhaps this new core can get things turned around in goal-to-go situations.

Finishing 19th in scoring offense, especially when the Kansas City Chiefs are your arch-rival, is not good enough.

Even with a younger quarterback at the helm, expect somewhat of a different result in the red zone from Payton’s offense this Fall if they want to contend.
