Lauri Markkanen recently made Utah Jazz fans happy when he agreed to a new five-year, $238 million deal with the team.
This followed weeks of speculation and questions about Markkanen’s future and which path he would choose.
Evan Sidery broke down Markkanen’s massive deal with the Jazz, and it will make him very comfortable for a long time.
He will earn $42.2 million in the 2024-25 season, followed by $46.4 million in 2025-26 and $46.1 million in 2026-27.
That will be followed by $49.8 million in 2027-28 and finally $53.5 million in 2028-29.
As Sidery noted, Markkanen will be rewarded with a higher salary during the “prime years” of his career.

2025-26 = $46.4 million

Markkanen is 27 years old and will be 32 when he is earning the highest amount in this new deal.
These numbers show that the Jazz think he will only get better as he gets older, which is somewhat surprising.
It’s unexpected because Markkanen is a big man and, typically, those types of players get worse as they age and time and injuries catch up with them.
Markkanen has already had his fair share of injuries and only played in 55 games last season.
But the Jazz think he will develop and grow more and more in the years ahead, enhancing his game, getting stronger, and bringing more to Utah.
For weeks, we have heard that they were toying with the idea of shipping him to another team, but they obviously wanted to re-sign him to a new deal.
Now Markkanen will stick around in Utah for the next five years and he will be making a massive sum every single season.
