The New Orleans Saints are getting ready for the start of the season.
And while it took them a little longer than they would’ve wanted, they managed to keep one of their key players locked in for the future.
According to a report by Adam Schefter of ESPN, they just signed key LB Pete Werner to a three-year contract extension.

He was entering the final year of his rookie season, so he will now be under contract through the 2027 campaign.
Per the report, he’s going to get a whopping $17.5 million guaranteed at signing, with the deal totaling over $25 million.
This is essentially a two-year deal that will give him an opportunity to make even more money in 2027, and if he keeps playing the way he’s played since he entered the league, that’s very likely to be the case.
Thus far, Werner has started 35 of 43 possible games for the Saints.
The second-round pick out of Ohio State has logged 235 tackles (152 solo, 11 tackles for loss), one interception, two forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries, two quarterback hits, and 0.5 sacks.
He got off to a slow start to his career due to some inconsistencies, and some thought Willie Gay Jr. could get his starting spot at one point.
Nonetheless, it seems like the Saints are more than delighted with what they’ve seen from him so far.
Now, he’ll have a lot of weight on his shoulders and will have to prove that he was worthy of that kind of big money deal he just got.
