The Minnesota Vikings made the big move to select national champion quarterback J.J. McCarthy in the first round of this year’s NFL Draft.
Judging by that draft choice, he could be the quarterback of the future.
However, the team did sign veteran quarterback Sam Darnold earlier in the offseason to help be a bridge quarterback.
Former NFL quarterback Jordan Palmer believes that Darnold can be more than a bridge quarterback in the Twin Cities.
“I’ve been waiting for this…I think Sam is set up for a Comeback-Player-of-the-Year-type of season,” Palmer recently told The Herd.

As Palmer noted, Darnold has the talent to be a successful quarterback in the league.
He wasn’t drafted inside the top 10 picks because he got lucky.
However, the situations with the New York Jets and Carolina Panthers just didn’t work out.
So he got an opportunity to sit and learn from Kyle Shanahan and Brock Purdy out in San Francisco last season.
Combining the knowledge that he gained out there with his 56 career starts, the Vikings might have something in him before they turn the keys over to McCarthy.
It could be very interesting if Darnold wins the quarterback job and gets the team off to a good start.
Would head coach Kevin O’Connell really pull Darnold in favor of McCarthy with the team sitting at a record of 3-1 or 5-2?
There is no doubt that the situation in Minnesota is one that should be monitored all season long, especially if the Vikings start to win some games in the NFC.
