The Cleveland Browns made a rather surprising decision in the offseason.

Just when everybody thought they would bring Joe Flacco back after the great season he had with them, they pivoted and decided to sign Jameis Winston instead.

Some claimed that they didn’t want Flacco to become a distraction or the fans to call for him to start over Deshaun Watson if he struggled earlier in the season.

Others argued that Winston was a better fit for the Browns’ system, as he’s big, athletic, and can make plays with his legs.

Whatever the case, the former No. 1 pick will get an opportunity to showcase his skills in the Browns’ preseason opener.

Talking about that, Winston claimed to be humbled and that he wouldn’t take that chance for granted, knowing just how important every rep was for all players (via Scott Petrak).

Winston was expected to be a superstar, but his inconsistencies and careless play derailed a once-promising career.

Even so, the Browns could most definitely do a whole lot worse than to have him under center as their backup, as he’s still young and could even help them get a win or two if it came down to that.

His arm strength is off the charts and, while he can turn the ball over at a drastic rate, he can also score in bunches.

Still, the Browns will hope they don’t have to turn to his services and that Watson will be able to play all season, but whether that’s the case remains to be seen.
