One of the more underrated moves of the NFL offseason was the Minnesota Vikings signing former Pro Bowl running back Aaron Jones to a one-year deal.

After failing to agree on a revised contract with the Green Bay Packers, Jones ended up signing with Minnesota.

It has recently been revealed how head coach Kevin O’Connell plans to use the 29-year-old back.

According to ESPN’s Dan Graziano, Jones is expected to get “15-18 touches per game.”

Backup running back Ty Chandler is viewed as the “1B to Jones’ 1A,” per Graziano.

Based on the conversations @DanGrazianoESPN had at @Vikings training camp, he expects RB Aaron Jones to get “15-18 touches per game and use Ty Chandler as kind of a 1B to Jones’ 1A.”

At his best, Jones is one of the best running backs in football.

Entering his eighth NFL season, the former NFL rushing touchdowns co-leader has recorded three 1,000-yard rushing seasons and four 1,100-yard scrimmage seasons.

His average of 5.0 yards per carry is one of the best in NFL history.

No. 33 is a total pro who can bring a lot of value to Minnesota’s offense.

However, he has had some injury history over the years, which is part of the reason why Green Bay chose not to keep him around.

The former UTEP star has played just two full seasons in his career and is coming off of a season in which he missed six games due to a hamstring injury.

If healthy, he can be very impactful in the Twin Cities.

Chandler is entering his third season with the Vikings and is coming off a much-improved sophomore season (620 scrimmage yards, 3 total touchdowns).

Look for this duo to be leaned on heavily in 2024, especially if rookie quarterback J.J. McCarthy is under center.
