Chicago Bears rookie quarterback Caleb Williams, from a talent perspective, is near the top of the leaderboard.

He has all the traits that you would want in a franchise quarterback, which is why Chicago selected him with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft.

However, according to Williams himself, he still needs to work on one particular area of his game.

“Learning how to slide … I’ve been working on my slides or getting out of bounds,” Williams said on “Up & Adams.”

The former Heisman Trophy winner hasn’t had to slide often during his football career because he has shown an ability to blow by defenders time and time again.

At USC and Oklahoma, he put up 966 rushing yards in three years of college football, along with 27 rushing touchdowns.

He might not be Lamar Jackson or Cam Newton as a runner, but he is still a big threat on the ground.

That is why opponents that face Williams cannot let him get outside the pocket. If he breaks contain, he can stretch the field and embarrass a defense.

However, he is a very young player (22 years old) who hasn’t taken a ton of hits in his football career.

This is exactly why he needs to continue to work on sliding, because all it takes is one unfortunate hit to dash the season hopes of Williams, the Bears and the fan base.

Remember, the Bears chose to draft Williams instead of building on last season with former starting quarterback Justin Fields.

If Williams gets injured, it could be a long, dark season for head coach Matt Eberflus.
