The Atlanta Falcons made a decision that was tough to explain in the NFL Draft.
Most insiders projected Michael Penix Jr. to go late in the first round because of his age and injury concerns, yet they took him No. 8 overall.
They seemingly could’ve traded back and still got him, but they were clearly very high on him and didn’t want to take any chances.
That prompted plenty of backlash and mockery, as they had already paid a lot of money to get Kirk Cousins.
Nonetheless, it didn’t take long before Penix Jr. changed the narrative around him.
He completed 9 of 16 passes for 104 yards and set up his team for a couple of scores in his preseason debut vs. the Miami Dolphins.
With that in mind, former NFL QB Dan Orlovsky took to Twitter to rave about him and how great he looked in his first taste of NFL action.

Notably, no one doubted Penix Jr’s arm talent or accuracy.
The two knocks on him were his age — as he’s 24 years old already — and his history of multiple injuries.
However, he managed to stay healthy and threw for over 4,900 yards and 36 touchdowns in his last season in college, being one of the best prospects in the game.
The Falcons’ decision to bring him in means he likely won’t be a starter until he’s at least 26 years old, which is significantly older than what most teams would want.
Even so, if a player can ball, he can ball, regardless of his age.
