There are few things more exciting as a baseball fan than following one of your team’s high-profile prospects ascend up the minor league system and finally reach the majors.
One future prospect raised some eyebrows during his most recent game and is making himself a must-watch player heading into next year’s college season.
2025 Vanderbilt commit Seth Hernandez recently hit 100 miles per hour off the mound on the second pitch of his start in the Area Code Baseball Games.

The @VandyBoys commit hit 99 MPH on the first pitch of the game, too. Slo-mo side angle look here of the gas. Out of @CoronaPBaseball (CA).

Hernandez also hit 99mph with his first pitch and is trending way up ahead of joining Vandy for the 2025 season, which is highly regarded as one of the best pitching pipelines to the MLB.
He stands at 6’4″ and 190 pounds and was selected as the Los Angeles Times’ Baseball Player Of The Year for 2024.
The 100mph showing was a strong tick up from what many scouts have expected from him, as Hernandez has sat in the 94-97mph range in the past but appears to be getting bigger and stronger.
Hernandez also plays third base, but his ceiling is much higher as a pitcher, and that ceiling will only be going higher after this start.
The mechanics look strong, which is always important for young pitchers as the constant worry is that they will develop arm problems and need Tommy John surgery before their career ever even gets started.
If he keeps pitching like this, Hernandez could find himself skipping Vanderbilt altogether and pushing his way up the MLB Draft boards instead.
