Analyst Says 1 Star WR Is In A ‘Perfect Situation’

Many NFL superstar wide receivers unfortunately never find the right quarterback to make the most of their abilities, while other potential superstars never even get the chance to be great after being drafted into the wrong situation and seeing their careers get derailed right off the bat.

Some star receivers get lucky and land in the right spot on draft night, which is exactly what happened to one unlikely superstar last year, according to one analyst.

Analyst Greg Cosell appeared on The Ross Tucker Podcast and said that Los Angeles Rams receiver Puka Nacua is “very much a function of scheme” and mentioned that he is in a perfect situation because of it, saying “in the context of the Rams passing game, he did not have to win many 1-on-1 matchups.”

Cosell added that the way the offense functions with so much motion and reduced splits makes it so Nacua doesn’t have to line up 1-on-1 against tough corners on the outside and consistently beat them.

It’s not to take away anything from Nacua, but it’s a fair point that acknowledges how favorable this situation is to receivers.

Cooper Kupp has benefited from the same system and become one of the best receivers of his generation.

It’s simply an example of how offense should be played, as coaches should always be looking for ways to help their receivers get open that don’t involve them having to beat the best corners on the defense 1-on-1 all the time.

Nacua had the best rookie year of any wide receiver in NFL history and has set the bar high for his Year 2 expectations.
