NFL passing numbers have been trending upward for the past few decades, and with the season expanding to 17 games (likely soon to be 18), those passing numbers will only continue to rise over time, at least until the league decides to go back to playing smashmouth football.
One analyst believes that a certain rookie quarterback is positioned to break his franchise’s passing record right out of the gate.
Joe Dolan of Fantasy Points believes that fantasy owners should enjoy taking Chicago Bears No. 1 overall pick Caleb Williams in their drafts this year, saying “They are basically the keystone of my draft plan…I think Caleb Williams breaks the Bears franchise passing record this year.”

Any sports fan has to respect this take, because at first glance it sounds like a scalding hot take, but it’s actually an incredibly mild take disguised as a hot take.
Breaking a franchise record sounds like a massive achievement until you realize that the Bears’ single-season record for passing yards is only 3,858 yards, which was set by Erik Kramer in 1995.
Jalen Hurts threw for exactly this amount of yards last season and he was 14th in the NFL in passing yards.
Gardner Minshew was the only quarterback in the league to play all 17 games last season and fail to reach 3,858 yards, so if Caleb can stay healthy, he should have no problem reaching this number, especially since he now has a stable of weapons to throw to in D.J. Moore, Keenan Allen, and Rome Odunze.
Hot-take artists should take notes on this one, as Dolan delivered a truly beautiful take here.
Williams should be a lot of fun to have on your fantasy team this year.
