Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver George Pickens is widely considered to be one of the most talented receivers in the NFL even if his numbers in his two seasons haven’t backed that up quite yet.

One analyst thinks very highly of him and would place his raw ability up there with the absolute top tier leaguewide.

Greg Cosell appeared on The Ross Tucker Podcast and spoke highly of Pickens, claiming “Ability-wise, you could make the argument that he is a top 6 or 7 receiver in the league” while adding “whether he becomes that guy on a week-to-week basis remains to be seen.”

Pickens put up strong numbers in his sophomore campaign last year while catching passes from Kenny Pickett and Mason Rudolph again, posting 63 catches for 1,140 yards and five touchdowns and playing in all 17 games for the second year in a row to begin his career.

Cosell’s doubt with Pickens stems from his consistency, and the numbers back it up as he had four games last season with over 125 receiving yards while also putting up seven games with fewer than 40 yards.

Some of the blame could certainly fall on the erratic quarterbacks, to say the least in his two years, so Russell Wilson can hopefully bring more stability to the position.

Pittsburgh could also benefit from expanding his route tree and not simply using him as a deep threat, as Pickens has yet to corral more than seven catches in a game in his career.

The ability is undeniable, and in Year 3, it would be nice to see more consistency and more creativity.
