The San Antonio Spurs may not have won many games last season, but they still were must-watch television.
They had the most interesting rookie in the NBA — and perhaps in NBA history — and people will continue to tune in for as long as he’s there.
Victor Wembanyama’s growth and ascent to the top will definitely be worth watching, as we’ve already seen how special he can be.
More than that, unlike so many young stars, Wembanyama is obsessed with winning and getting better, and that’s yet another reason why he will separate himself from the rest of the pack in no time.
That was evident again as soon as he won the silver medal in the Olympics.
Instead of celebrating, he put the rest of the world on notice by stating that he was just getting started and learning and that the rest of the basketball community should be afraid (via Mike Finger).
Victor Wembanyama, with a silver medal around his neck:
“I’m learning, and I’m worried for the opponents in a couple of years.”
In FIBA or the NBA?
“Everywhere.”

Afraid, indeed.
Wembanyama has a unique skill set.
He can swat shots into the stands, be a disruptive defensive factor on the perimeter, set up shots for his teammates, put the ball on the floor, and even hit an occasional three-pointer every now and then.
There’s nothing he can’t do on the floor, and he’s just getting started.
Wembanyama also shut down all doubt about his health by staying on the court for most of his rookie season, and you just can tell how badly he wants it and how determined he is to win.
Enjoy it while it lasts, world.
Wembanyama is on the hunt.
