New Las Vegas Raiders head coach Antonio Pierce got his first experience manning the sidelines in his new role after his team took on the Minnesota Vikings in their preseason opener.

The Raiders lost to the Vikings 24-23, though it was a good showing from the team on both ends of the field.

While Las Vegas did struggle to contain Minnesota’s running game throughout the afternoon, the team did go into halftime with a 20-7 lead.

Unfortunately, things unraveled in the second half as the Vikings’ offense started to get going and were able to march down the field in the closing minutes to set up the game-winning field goal.

Pierce decided to use some of his timeouts in the fourth quarter to get the Raiders to regroup, though that ended up being more harmful as it stopped the clock and gave Minnesota the time it needed to get itself in position to score.

After the game, Pierce admitted that he would do things differently if given the chance via Vegas Sports Today.

“Lesson learned,” Pierce said.

“Lesson learned.”

In the video, Pierce explains that he thought the situation would have played out differently after taking his timeouts but didn’t seem too concerned with the results.

Fortunately for him and Las Vegas, preseason is more about the process than the end result of games and it ultimately seemed like a good learning opportunity.

The most important thing for Pierce is to get these live reps during the preseason so he and the Raiders can be better prepared for the regular season.
