There was a lot of hype surrounding the 2021 NFL Draft.
Similarly to the 2024 draft, there were a few quarterbacks slated to go in the first round, players that teams were excited about.
Trevor Lawrence, Zach Wilson, and Trey Lance were the first three picks of the draft, and they were expected to lead their respective teams for the foreseeable future.
Fast forward three years, and that did not end up being the case.
Lawrence is still with the Jacksonville Jaguars, but Wilson is with the Denver Broncos, and Lance is now with the Dallas Cowboys.
The Cowboys already have a bonafide starter in Dak Prescott for the 2024 season, but his future with the franchise is unknown.
With that in mind, Lance could benefit from being a part of this organization, and he’s gotten some valuable reps to this point.
He did have a chance to play meaningful minutes in the Cowboys’ first preseason game, but it didn’t go as well as he hoped, as Lance told reporters.
According to reporter Todd Archer, “I think I let some plays out there for sure across the board from the first quarter to the fourth. We get the four extra possessions, and we don’t score touchdowns. That’s not a good feeling,” Lance said.
Trey Lance lamented some missed opportunities in his first action in nearly a year. Mike McCarthy liked the QBs command but continues to say Lance needs as much work as he can get.

While Lance got an opportunity in the preseason game, it wasn’t what he hoped for.
He didn’t score touchdowns when the team needed them most, a letdown in his eyes.
With any luck, he will learn from his mistakes and get more chances to prove himself in this offense.
