The Pittsburgh Steelers’ quest to return to being a major force in the AFC was handed a curveball when new quarterback Russell Wilson suffered a calf injury recently.
As a result, he didn’t play in their preseason opener this weekend, and some feel Justin Fields may now have a real shot at winning the starting job over Russell.
But no matter who wins the QB1 spot, the Steelers will need strong offensive line play in order to take the next step.
On Monday, they announced on their official Twitter account that they were awarded offensive lineman TyKeem Doss off waivers.

Doss went undrafted in 2023 out of the University of Southern Mississippi, and he spent most of last season as a member of the Baltimore Ravens’ practice squad.
At 6-foot-5 and 380 pounds, he seems to have the size and physicality to become a contributor if the will and work ethic are there.
A recent Pro Football Focus article had Pittsburgh’s offensive line ranked just 20th, and with Wilson set to turn 36 years of age late this season, he will need effective protection in order to help him avoid injury.
His game has fallen off considerably over the last couple of years, and in 2023, he had a career-low in yards per pass attempt while with the Denver Broncos.
Last year, Pittsburgh went 10-7 and made the playoffs despite poor play from the QB position, and one would think that a significant improvement there could result in their first postseason win since the 2016 season.
