Last season turned out to be a disaster for the once-promising Minnesota Vikings, with the team marred by injuries to two of their best players, which derailed any chance for the team to compete in the NFC during the 2023 campaign.

The team lost veteran quarterback Kirk Cousins to a devastating season-ending Achilles injury, while superstar wide receiver Justin Jefferson dealt with a couple of significant injuries, resulting in the elite wideout being unable to get going like he normally does for the Vikings.

It appears the 2024 NFL season might already have the same feel to it regarding injuries, as it was announced this week that rookie quarterback JJ McCarthy was dealing with knee soreness and would have surgery to address the issue.

On Tuesday, when it became official that he would miss time, McCarthy took to Twitter to show some love to Vikings fans and promise to be back soon.

Love you Viking nation. I’ll be back in no time. Amor fati

With the Vikings bringing in McCarthy, using their first-round pick to get him in the 2024 NFL Draft, and actually trading up to make sure they were able to get the rookie who could be the future face of the franchise, the rookie going down after only one preseason game is unfortunate news, to say the least.

Fortunately for Minnesota, the Vikings have veteran journeyman Sam Darnold ready to lead the charge, who might’ve been the Week 1 starter regardless of whether McCarthy was healthy.

Although they’ll move forward with Darnold, McCarthy’s situation is concerning and not the greatest start to his NFL career.
