Some significant news hit the NFL wire earlier this week when it was announced that Minnesota Vikings rookie quarterback J.J. McCarthy had suffered a torn meniscus in Minnesota’s preseason win against the Las Vegas Raiders.
It is unknown how long the former national champion will be sidelined.
Despite the injury, that didn’t stop NFL analyst Greg Cosell from giving McCarthy his flowers after a solid preseason performance.
“He was much, much better at (using his feet and balance), and I give a ton of credit to Kevin O’Connell and the coaching staff,” Cosell recently said on the Ross Tucker Podcast.

Despite throwing an interception, McCarthy finished the game 11/17 for 188 yards and two touchdowns.
To see the former Michigan man show off his growth in his first game as a Viking should certainly give fans in the Twin Cities hope for the future.
However, he is now going to have to focus on recovery and rehabbing from his injury, which could take some time.
It will now be up to veteran Sam Darnold to lead this team for the majority of, if not all of, 2024.
With the likes of All-Pro receiver Justin Jefferson, Pro Bowl tight end T.J. Hockenson, second-year wide receiver Jordan Addison (10 touchdown catches as a rookie in 2023), and former Pro Bowl running back Aaron Jones in the fold, this Vikings can be formidable in the NFC.
But it will fall on the shoulders of the former first-round pick in Darnold to take this team where it wants to go without McCarthy.
