When Johnson entered the league in 1979-80, everyone knew he could be the next big thing.
He posted 18 points, 7.7 rebounds, and 7.3 assists during his first year with the Lakers, helping them earn a championship in his rookie season and become the Showtime Lakers that changed the NBA.
Over the next 12 seasons, Johnson changed more than the league.
He became a major celebrity and also drew awareness to HIV and public health.
Johnson didn’t play as much as he could have due to his HIV diagnosis but even after he retired for good, Johnson stayed close to the NBA.
He has been affiliated with the Lakers after retirement and is also part of a management company that co-owns several professional sports teams.
Of course, he is still NBA royalty and many people feel that he’s the greatest point guard of all time.
He was talented, fast, flashy, and wowed the crowd every single night.
He led the league in assists and steals multiple times and became an idol to millions of young fans who modeled their game after him.
At 65 years old, Johnson is still deeply involved in the NBA and fans are very happy about that.
